Last weekend, seven eager children came to our Elstree studio to take part in our first Kano computer workshop. From motherboards to Minecraft, the day was an educational success.

Kano, the UK’s most successful Kickstarter project to date, is a build-it-yourself computer for kids. The colourful kits have been praised by many, including Mayor of London Boris Johnson, for their ability to engage young people in technology beyond simply being users.

We have vocally backed the Kano initiative from early on and received four kits, which we used to develop a workshop to make Kano even more accessible to local kids. From actually piecing together the hardware to coding on the command line, to playing and customising games, the children had a great time over the four hours.

All the kids that attended loved the experience and said they wanted to come back again to a future workshop. We will be hosting more Kano workshops throughout the year – contact us to register your children for the next one! See more from the workshop:
