When the festive music takes over the Cyber-Duck speakers, we know it’s time to kick-start our Christmas project. This year, we’ve gone for something more than a bit different. Playing with the Internet of Things concept, we’ve built a Santa that responds to online activity – tweet @Cyberduck_UK and #makesantadance to see his moves via our live webcam, and be wished a Merry Christmas! I’m going behind the scenes to cover why and how we built this project.
At the end of October, Calum and I headed to Cardiff for The Web Is, a two-day conference celebrating 25 years of the World Wide Web. The single track event played host to a wide range of the web’s greatest innovators, storytellers and educators and they truly inspired us with their stories. Here are our highlights.

BIMA’s annual Digital Day event (D-Day for short) is a nationwide initiative that links schools with creative professionals from across the UK. For the second year running Cyber-Duck helped students from Bushey Meads School develop their concepts for apps and Internet of Things projects.
The Cyber-Duck team was thrilled to win a UX UK Award for the ‘Best Transactional Experience’ for our work with mydlc! Rewarding those who take pride in offering the best possible experience for users, UX UK even made the project a finalist for a further award, the ‘Best Effect on Business Goals’. Our win showcases the success of mydlc, a bespoke customer payment portal that simplifies a complex transaction to great effect for their users.
The Ducks were delighted with our success at the Wirehive 100 Award Ceremony last week. Joining the best in digital in the striking setting of England’s largest vineyard, Cyber-Duck were recognised as the 13th top agency in the South. With our Strategy Manager Siji announced as the Account Handler of the Year, and Production Lead Craig highly commended for Creative, the night showcased our fantastic team.

Aspiring to recognise excellence in user-focused digital design, the nomination (amidst tough competition) recognises the strategy and success of mydlc, the bespoke customer payment portal launched just before last Christmas.
The fourth annual Duckies Awards party took place last month at our Elstree headquarters. The extended Cyber-Duck family, including our clients and suppliers, gathered to celebrate outstanding student design—and the company’s ninth birthday!
