International construction firm BAM, has been shortlisted for a 2012 Construction Marketing Award for their use of social media. The esteemed awards are organised by The Chartered Institute of Marketing Construction Industry Group (CIMCIG) and recognise creativity, innovation and effectiveness of marketing activity across the construction industries.

Long standing client BAM, approached Cyber-Duck to help them design their social media pages as a way of improving communications with their staff, suppliers, customers and local community. Cyber-Duck were briefed to create two separate Facebook company pages, one for BAM’s construction projects (BAM Construct UK) and one for their employees (BAM People), while still keeping within BAM’s branding guidelines.

The BAM Construct UK page aimed to educate staff, suppliers, customers and the local community on projects and builds in their region. From here, users could then go on to access the different BAM construction project pages via the Facebook tabs feature. These pages would act as a central information portal for those interested in construction projects happening within their community, and offered a portal for queries and discussion.

Cyber-Duck also helped BAM to create its People pages, a place for staff to communicate so they could constantly stay on top of news and social events from within their workforce and community. This is used by employees to organise staff team building activities, such as fund-raising events and inter-regional tournaments.

In order for the pages to remain constantly updated with the latest information, Cyber Duck created an RSS feed for the pages using RSS Graffiti to the main BAM Construct UK and BAM People Facebook pages, meaning that whenever a project page was updated by regional owners, the news would automatically be updated on the two main BAM Facebook pages, ensuring there was a constant stream of news.

The Facebook pages were also developed to be controlled via the BAM website Sitefinity CMS (Content Management System), meaning the BAM marketing team could update the Facebook pages on software they are familiar with.

The Facebook application has been a great success with the CMA judges impressed by the campaigns targeting, communication, cost effectiveness and overall success in helping to push the marketing activities of BAM Construct UK.

The Construction Marketing Awards 2012 ceremony will be held on Thursday 6th December, being held at the Radisson Blu, Portman Square, London, and we’ll be sure to update you with the result as soon as the awards dinner has been held.
